Fall 2012
- Raffi Melanson, Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, DC – Raffi is a third year law student at Georgetown Law, specializing in digital media and technology law. At Boston University, Raffi took a special interest in the interplay between net neutrality and intellectual property while earning B.A.’s in International Relations, Economics and Math. Before joining Public Knowledge, he advocated on behalf of deaf and hard of hearing groups in DMCA and FCC proceedings for Georgetown’s Institute for Public Representation. He also worked on wireline telecom issues at the FCC, litigation matters at the U.S. District Court for D.C., and energy policy at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. When not in the office, Raffi likes to box, bike around the city, and watch cancelled television shows.
- Eric Null, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, New York, NY - Eric Null is a recent graduate of Cardozo Law School with a concentration in Intellectual Property and Communications. He is very involved in telecommunications and Internet law and policy, having published legal articles on topics ranging from network neutrality to ICANN's New gTLD program, and a book chapter about the legal and political barriers to municipal broadband networks. He also worked as a research assistant to Professors Susan Crawford and Brett Frischmann. Follow him @ericnull.
- Lucy Wolf, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA - Lucy graduated in the spring of 2012 with a BA in American History. She's interested in technology policy and plans to go to law school. She is from Seattle and is having a great time exploring the other Washington.

- Greg Capobianco, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, New York, NY – Greg is a rising 2L at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He holds a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania. Beyond an interest in technology and law, he enjoys digital photography, politics, and the Oxford comma.
- Andrés Izquierdo, Universidad de Los Andes, Colombia - Andres holds a JD from Universidad de Los Andes, Colombia, has completed specialized seminars on Collective Management of Copyright and Related Rights in the Society of Authors and Publishers of Spain (SGAE) and in Intellectual Property at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
in Geneva, Switzerland. Andrés also has an LLM (Masters Degree) in Intellectual Property from the Universitá Degli Studi di Torino, Italy. His master's thesis, entitled "Alternative Approaches to Intellectual Property Protection of Bio-Pharmaceutical Innovation form a FLOSS perspective" received honors, was published by WIPO in the 2006 edition of "WIPO - Turin Collection of Research Papers" - and received an award from Microsoft International. He has served as legal adviser to the Colombian Association of Phonographic Producers Asincol; intern attorney in the firm Frignani & Associati Turin, Italy; Partner-Director of Litigation and Arbitration in the firm Palacio & Ballesteros, Colombia; and Business and Legal Manager for the Andean Region at Sony Music Entertainment. Currently he is a researcher for Universidad Javeriana in Labcom, Colombia and Parter-Director in Intellectual Property at Vanegas, Izquierdo & Delgado. Andrés has published various articles on Intellectual Property and Copyright and works as copyright teacher at various universities in Colombia.

- Kara Novak, Notre Dame University Law School, South Bend, IN - Kara, a contracted staff attorney, came to PK in September 2011 with an interest in balanced copyright law and privacy, but now enjoys spending most of her time on spectrum and other telecom issues. She has fun exploring random parts of DC and aspires to a gig playing piano at Nordstrom. Kara holds a JD from Notre Dame Law School and a BA in mathematics and music from Hamilton College.

A hobbyist songwriter, he has copyrighted some original compositions and recordings. Mart's interests include intellectual property in all its forms, and devices that work the way you expect them to.

- Avonne Bell, George Washington University Law School, Washington, DC - Avonne is a rising second year law student at the George Washington University Law School. Prior to law school, she was a consultant with government consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton where she worked on national security and emergency communications issues. She holds a bachelor’s in engineering and a master’s in public policy.
Avonne is interested in the vast policy/legal issues that are emerging due to the rapid innovations in telecommunications and internet technologies including in the area of intellectual property.

Prior to enrolling in law school, she was a research associate for the Trans-Atlantic Consumer Dialogue’s Intellecutal Property Policy Committee and a research assistant at Knowledge Ecology International, where she worked on IP and international trade issues. Meredith is interested in how intellectual property evolves in response to issues of accessibility, international trade, fair use, and remix culture.
- Joe Newman, George Washington University Law School, Washington, DC - Joe is a graduate of Wesleyan University with a B.A. in English and Music, and a rising second year student at GW Law. Prior to law school, Joe worked at Future Publishing, writing for its print and online publications. An avid musician, Joe is interested in copyright reform, specifically in the areas of First Amendment and Fair Use.

- Ben Doernberg, Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA - Ben Doernberg has completed two years of his undergraduate education at Muhlenberg College, and will finish his degree beginning in the spring. A Political Science and Sociology major, Ben spent this past summer as an International Relations intern at NASA Headquarters, where he sadly was not allowed to pilot any spaceships, even small ones. He is passionate about the importance of the open internet to a brighter future for the human race, and considers DVD region coding a nuisance and injustice of the worst kind.
