Position Description
The Information Technology Director is responsible for defining, procuring, maintaining and administering IT systems that support the organization’s mission.
Primary Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the IT Director are to:
- Develop, maintain and administer external websites.
- Maintain and administer hosted servers and services.
- Maintain and administer internal LAN.
- Create and maintain an annual technology budget.
- Provide technology support to staff and constituents.
- Maintain relationships with technology vendors.
- Prepare and present reports to management and Board of Directors.
- Maintain and administer phone system.
- Evaluate and purchase equipment for staff.
Qualifications
An ideal candidate for this position would have the following characteristics:
- System administration skills - Mac OS X, Linux and Microsoft Windows.
- Knowledge of and troubleshooting experience with common application software on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.
- Working knowledge/experience with LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) stack development, deployment and administration.
- Development and maintenance experience with the Drupal CMS.
- Knowledge of Javascript and CSS.
- Experience with IP phone systems.
- Knowledge of basic budgeting processes.
- Auditing skills.
Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience.

Internships
Public Knowledge offers unpaid internships during the school year and summer to students studying either law or public policy. We encourage interns to spend 8-10 weeks with us. Summer internships are generally full-time positions. Internships in the fall and spring can be either full-time or part time (10-20 hours per week).
An internship with Public Knowledge is an opportunity to work on the latest intellectual property issues and technology policy developments. Please take the time to review our website to see some of our projects.
Although Public Knowledge does not offer compensation for internships, funding opportunities may be available through your school or through programs like the Google Policy Fellowship.
