House Panel Releases Report Blasting Martin

Most recent activity:

The House Energy and Commerce Committee has released its report criticizing FCC Chairman Kevin Martin's administration of the FCC.

It's a 110-page indictment, charging among other things that the Commission under Martin withheld information, did not handle matters openly and transparently, and failed to carry out its responsibilities.

The report said Martin's "heavy-handed, opaque and non-collegial management style has created distrust, suspicion and turmoil among the five current Commissioners."

Normally, the Committee said, it would hold a hearing on a report like this. However, the "climate of fear" at the FCC kept potential witnesses not only from testifying but from having their names made public.
