[title] => Public Knowledge Files Comments With the Office of the Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator
[body] =>
Today Public Knowledge filed
comments with the Office of the Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator
(IPEC) expressing concerns about the US government’s copyright enforcement
strategy.
The following is attributed to
Rashmi Rangnath, Director, Global Knowledge Initiative and Staff Attorney:
“To be successful, a copyright
enforcement strategy must be targeted and avoid collateral damage to innocent
actors. Instead, Operation in Our Sites, the domain name seizure strategy being
pursued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) casts too wide a net that
captures some infringing content and a lot of lawful content. This strategy
tramples over the free speech and due process rights of citizens.
“The
government must reevaluate its enforcement strategy and ensure that it only
narrowly targets infringing content, not entire websites.”
