We asked, you delivered. Yesterday we passed 100,000 signature mark on a White House petition to reform a sorely outdated privacy law.

Last week we blogged about a White House petition to reform the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (“ECPA”).  We were trying to get to 100,000 signatures, because the White House will issue an official response to every petition that gets at least 100,000 signatures in under 30 days. We asked you to take a moment of your time to sign the petition.

You delivered! Yesterday morning, just hours shy of the deadline, the 100,000th American signed this important petition. And the signatures are still rolling in, signaling to the Administration that the public demands improved electronic privacy protections.

Now we wait. But we hope the White House will issue a response soon. ECPA was passed in 1986 and has never been updated. What should be a keystone privacy law has been growing stale for over 25 years now! We don’t want to wait any longer for a much needed update.

Thanks to all who signed, blogged, and tweeted for your support.
