We can’t have democracy without journalism, without a press system, without a free and functional 4th estate…Unfortunately, a lot of the concerns don’t get at the structural causes. One of the main contributing factors is the loss of public service journalism: investigative reporting, local reporting, policy reporting- that thing that democracy requires- is disappearing. It’s a national crisis. It is affecting all of us. Everyone who cares about our democracy needs to care about our news and information systems. ~ Victor Pickard
