18th Annual IP3 Awards
September 23 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
The IP3 Awards is a special occasion to honor those who have made significant contributions in the three areas of IP: Intellectual Property, Information Policy, and Internet Protocol. This year will be the 18th year Public Knowledge has held the awards, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you.
We’ll be holding this year’s event virtually, but we will be using an interactive platform to give it an “in-person” feel! We will also be collecting your home address in your registration in order to send you a Gift Bag for the event.
Please save the date and come celebrate on Thursday, September 23rd!
Our 2021 Information Policy Award will be presented to Joy Buolamwini. She is a researcher and artist whose work illuminates the social implications and harms of artificial intelligence. She founded the Algorithmic Justice League and is a champion for algorithmic justice across the globe.
Our 2021 Intellectual Property Award will be posthumously presented to Sherwin Siy. He was a tech policy activist whose expertise spanned a range of fields including copyright, privacy, telecommunications, and free expression. He served as a lead attorney for the Electronic Privacy Information Center, Public Knowledge, the Federal Communications Commission, and the Wikimedia Foundation.
Our 2021 Internet Protocol Award will be presented to Chris Mitchell. He is the Director of the Community Broadband Networks Initiative with the Institute for Local Self-Reliance in Minneapolis. He is a leading national expert on community broadband networks and runs MuniNetworks.org, the comprehensive online clearinghouse of information about local broadband access policies.
Our 2021 President’s Award will be presented to Senator Amy Klobuchar — one of the Senate’s foremost leaders on tech issues like platform regulation and broadband opportunity. As Chair of the Antitrust Subcommittee, Senator Klobuchar has held blockbuster hearings to ensure fair competition in digital markets and proposed concrete reforms to update our antitrust laws to face the challenges of today. Building on her years of experience in the telecommunications sector, she has also been a leader on broadband access and affordability, working tirelessly on legislation to narrow the digital divide and to ensure that it is affordable for all.
