Public Knowledge President and co-founder Gigi B. Sohn announced today that filmmaker Jesse Dylan has joined the group’s Board of Directors.

Dylan is a noted director whose work includes American Wedding (part of the American Pie series) and Kicking and Screaming. He also directed the Emmy-award winning video “Yes We Can,” featuring singer Will.i.am mixing a speech by presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, and the video, “A Shared Culture,” for Creative Commons.

Sohn said, “We are pleased and honored to have someone as talented as Jesse Dylan join our board. He brings the perspective of a respected filmmaker who recognizes the importance of reform of copyright laws and who sees an open Internet as the wave of the future for artists.”

Dylan said, “I’m proud to be joining with Public Knowledge, an organization at the forefront of the battle to meet new challenges and obstacles we face by fighting to ensure continued innovation for artists, and the public at large, by protecting openness for interactive communities and promoting fairness in new media. I'm looking forward to working together with Gigi and the other Board members.”

Dylan joins the other members of PK’s Board: Laurie Racine, board chairman, president of dotSub and PK co-founder; David Bollier, copyright activist and scholar, also co-founder of PK; Hal Abelson, professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Warrington Hudlin, president of Black Filmmaker Foundation; Reed Hundt, former Federal Communications Commission chairman and McKinsey and Co. advisor; Brewster Kahle, president and co-founder of the Internet Archive; Jonathan Taplin, adjunct professor at the University of Southern California.
