Today, Public Knowledge joins 75 public interest and civil rights groups in a letter urging the Federal Communications Commision to protect the internet and video marketplace by acting on three proceedings: the set-top box rulemaking, the broadband privacy rulemaking, and the zero-rating investigation.

The letter warns the FCC that further delays would jeopardize internet users’ privacy and undermine efforts to make internet, cable and satellite services more open and  affordable for consumers. Public Knowledge encourages the FCC to finish the job that the Open Internet Order started by protecting privacy and promoting consumer choice in video and broadband markets.

The following can be attributed to Chris Lewis, Vice President at Public Knowledge:

“Controlling the device market, consumers’ personal information, or what websites and services Americans have access to are all ways that cable and broadband providers serve as gatekeepers online and in the media. The longer these issues are delayed, the more difficult it will be for consumers to trust that they can reach the content and services of their choice. Congress has empowered the FCC to ensure we have open and trustworthy networks. Public Knowledge stands together with these groups in calling on the FCC to meet this responsibility as soon as possible.”
