Public Knowledge Welcomes Bill to Bolster FTC’s Enforcement, Rulemaking CapabilitiesJuly 16, 2021
Today, Representative Kathy Castor (D-FL) introduced the “21st Century FTC Act” to strengthen the agency’s rulemaking authority as well as its authority to fine lawbreakers the first time they harm consumers as opposed to waiting for them to break the law again. Public Knowledge welcomes the bill and commends Rep. Castor for giving the FTC the same rulemaking authority other agencies already have.
The following can be attributed to Sara Collins, Policy Counsel at Public Knowledge:
“We are pleased to see Rep. Castor introduce this bill that not only strengthens the FTC’s enforcement powers, but also empowers the FTC to create rules for our digital economy in a timely and efficient manner. This bill marks a bold next step toward giving the FTC the authority it needs to regulate an increasingly complex digital economy, as well as protect consumers from harm.”
