Today, Public Knowledge Senior Advisor Gene Kimmelman announced his resignation in order to serve as Senior Counselor for President Joe Biden’s Associate Attorney General at the Department of Justice. This will be a limited duration position.

The following can be attributed to Chris Lewis, President and CEO at Public Knowledge:

“The entire Public Knowledge family is grateful for Gene’s seven years at our organization, part of Gene’s long career of working on behalf of the public interest in government and the nonprofit sector. Gene’s leadership as our second President and CEO, and recently as a Senior Advisor, helped expand the issues we advocate for on behalf of technology users and consumers to include the importance of competition policy and antitrust law, and began an organizational commitment to building a diverse generation of public interest advocates to follow his tenure.

“With so many challenges to be faced in tech policy, we will continue to champion these priorities so that the average technology user is protected from harmful monopolies and gatekeepers; gains equitable access to communications tools and creative works; and enjoys free expression balanced against the powerful harms facing our society online.

“We wish Gene well and congratulate him in continuing his legacy of public interest service in his selection to serve in the Department of Justice. While we will miss him at Public Knowledge, we trust that his years of experience and passion for the needs of the average consumer will be a great support for the talented leadership at the Justice Department.”
