Today, the New York Public Service Commission has revoked its previous approval of the Charter/Time Warner Cable merger, finding among other things that Charter has failed to meet its broadband buildout requirements. Today, reports indicate that the Federal Communications Commission voted to change a merger requirement that Charter Communications bring broadband competition to a million new households. The agency originally applied this requirement to Charter during the 2016 merger approval process for Charter, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks.

Today, the Federal Communications Commission voted to approve the Charter/Time Warner Cable merger with some conditions designed to protect the public interest. While Public Knowledge proposed broader restrictions on the merging companies, we nonetheless support the Justice Department and FCC conditions and look forward to working with the agencies to promote competition and video choice.
