Debriefing Public Knowledge’s Comments to NTIA on Its International Internet Policy Priorities

Back in May, the National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA) issued a Notice of Inquiry (NOI) seeking public comments and recommendations from stakeholders on its international internet policy priorities. Among other issues, NTIA sought comment on: 1) challenges to the free flow of information online, 2) the multistakeholder approach to internet governance, and 3) privacy and security. Last week, Public Knowledge submitted its comments in response to NTIA’s public notice. Public Knowledge Welcomes the NTIA’s Decision to Advance the IANA Transition

Today, the U.S. National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) released a report assessing the state of the transition of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) to the global multistakeholder community. The NTIA’s detailed, 200-page report offers a thoughtful recommendation to approve and advance the IANA transition on its scheduled date: September 30, 2016. It also offers next steps for the completion of this process, as well as suggestions for improvements post-transition.
