Tell Congress to Support the Unlocking Technology Act

H.R. 1892 is a bill that builds upon the recent law that made cell phone unlocking legal again. The bill also takes additional steps to ensure that people making lawful uses of copyrighted works won't be sued if they circumvent digital locks in order to do so.

A longstanding problem with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) has been that consumers, artists, educators, and researchers have been at risk of being sued or prosecuted for circumventing a digital lock, even if it is for a legal use. This bipartisan bill makes it clear that anyone can unlock their technology without fear of legal repercussions, as long as it is for a lawful use.

This bill will help prevent manufacturers from trapping consumers into particular products and service plans by giving consumers the right to unlock the technology that they own.  Please tell your member of Congress to allow us all to fully own the technology we own by supporting H.R. 1892.
